Meet the Director of Permitting Planning and Policy
Angela Colamaria is the Director of Permitting Planning and Policy and is part of the Permitting Council’s leadership team. Colamaria leads the Council’s efforts to advance the agency as a center for permitting excellence across the federal government. She provides strategic direction to develop and manage programs that advance the timeliness and effectiveness of permitting reviews and authorizations.
Prior to joining the Permitting Council, Colamaria served as the Chief Legal Counsel for the Montana Department of Environmental Quality, leading the legal unit and ensuring department compliance with federal and state environmental laws. Previously, she worked for the White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) as the Permitting Team Lead, directing the team as it worked to improve the federal infrastructure permitting process. During this time, Colamaria helped create the Permitting Council, serving as the Acting Director of the agency in 2018. Before joining OMB, Colamaria spent six years at the U.S. Department of Energy where she directed the environmental reviews for innovative energy projects and oversaw proposals for the third-party finance of new transmission projects. Before joining the federal government, she worked as an attorney at the law firm of Beveridge & Diamond, PC where she represented multi‐national corporations on complex environmental law issues.
Colamaria received her Juris Doctor degree from the American University Washington College of Law and her bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan School for Environment and Sustainability (formerly known as the School for Natural Resources and Environment).
