WASHINGTON (December 16, 2024) – The Federal Permitting Improvement Steering Council (Permitting Council) is pleased to announce its brand new website: permitting.gov. This new online presence will serve as the virtual home for the innovative FAST-41 permitting assistance program and will act as a permitting excellence resource for federal agencies, industry stakeholders, Tribes and communities across the nation.

“Building an agency website for the Permitting Council has been one of the top priorities of the past year, and I could not be more pleased to see this project come to life,” said Eric Beightel, Permitting Council Executive Director. “Permitting.gov is so much more than just a website–it will be the go-to resource for stakeholders across government and industry, as we work together to improve permitting. With our new website, and the other key initiatives we launched during this administration, the Permitting Council is well positioned to help bring the next generation of infrastructure to life.”

The new year marks the 10th anniversary of the Permitting Council’s creation, and after years of relying on the Federal Permitting Dashboard as its virtual home the new website allows the agency to offer a full suite of resources online. The new website will serve as the virtual front door for federal permitting resources, providing access to key tools and programs all in one location, including:

  • FAST-41 permitting assistance program, eligibility, and how to apply

  • Permitting excellence best practices

  • Environmental Review Improvement Fund resources

  • Resources for Tribal and State governments

  • Current FAST-41 covered projects and direct contact information for project managers

The Permitting Council is excited to use this website to showcase how it works to bring transparency, predictability and accountability to the complex world of federal permitting. Visit permitting.gov today and check out the new online home for federal permitting efficiency.

Note: While featured on the new Permitting Council website, the Federal Permitting Dashboard continues to be housed at www.permits.performance.gov and maintained by the Department of Transportation. Visitors to the new Permitting Council website will receive access to the dashboard, along with in-depth information on Permitting Council programs and resources.

About the Permitting Council and FAST-41

Established in 2015 by Title 41 of the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST-41) and made permanent in the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the Permitting Council is a unique federal agency charged with improving the transparency and predictability of the federal environmental review and authorization process for certain critical infrastructure projects. The Permitting Council is comprised of the Permitting Council Executive Director, who serves as the Council Chair; 13 federal agency Council members (including deputy secretary-level designees of the Secretaries of Agriculture, Army, Commerce, Interior, Energy, Transportation, Defense, Homeland Security, and Housing and Urban Development, the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, and the Chairs of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, and the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation); and the Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality and the Director of the Office of Management and Budget.

The Permitting Council coordinates federal environmental reviews and authorizations for projects that seek and qualify for FAST-41 coverage. FAST-41 covered projects are entitled to comprehensive permitting timetables and transparent, collaborative management of those timetables on the Federal Permitting Dashboard. FAST-41 covered projects may be in the renewable or conventional energy production, electricity transmission, energy storage, surface transportation, aviation, ports and waterways, water resource, broadband, pipelines, manufacturing, mining, carbon capture, semiconductors, artificial intelligence and machine learning, high-performance computing and advanced computer hardware and software, quantum information science and technology, data storage and data management, and cybersecurity sectors. The Permitting Council also serves as a federal center for permitting excellence, supporting federal efforts to improve infrastructure permitting including and beyond FAST-41 covered projects to the extent authorized by law, including activities that promote or provide for the efficient, timely, and predictable completion of environmental reviews and authorizations for federally-authorized infrastructure projects.
